odaBottleOpenerwala was brought to us by restauranteur A.D Singh, the man behind the Olive Chain group. Looks like he correctly understood the impact Iranian cafes had on Mumbaikars and ended up putting together a space that would make any place in the world feel like Bombay from the ’80s!
Majorly inspired by the Iranian cafes from back in the day and successfully recreating the old school feeling of sitting in one, SodaBottleOpenerwala is quite a homely place for a person from Bombay. And for the ones who want to experience the old school, authentic Bombay- this place is a must-visit!
Adorned with things from the 90’s, SodaBottleOpenerwala is no less than a museum. The fact that I keep strolling in between meals each time I go there simply proves how much this restaurant can be explored.
Bar & Cafe
The cocktails, I have heard are good as well. Something I may want to try in the future. If you guys have any recommendations, please feel free to drop in your comments.
If you are a cottage cheese person then Bharuchi Paneer Akuri with Malai na Paratha is just the right dish for you.
Once again, if paneer is the reason you live and (or ++) you eat to live then all you gotta do is-
Step1- Walk into SodaBottleOpenerwala
Step2- Get to an empty table
Step3- Reach out to a waiter
Step4- Order the aforementioned
If you swear by sea-food and the enjoy Parsi style onion-tomato gravy, then …
you & the Squid and Prawn Patio are meant for each other! Paired with caramelised (yes, with onions!!!) parsi brown rice, this combination will make you forget your sorrows (sorry for sounding a little over dramatic but trust me it’s worth the melodrama)!
Still wondering whether or not to go to SodaBottleOpenerwala? OK, so…
Have you had a long day at work and seeking comfort food?
Have you had a boring day and seeking something exciting?
Are you famished and want your next meal to surprise you?
Are you too hungry to wrack your brains to pick what to eat?
Do you feel like munching onto some street food whilst sitting comfortably?
Do you wish to have a simple cup of tea with some butter bread?
Well if your answer is YES to any of the aforementioned questions, then time’s time to head to this quirk box!
Things I want to try during my next visit-
– Khade Chamach Ki Chai (too sweet to be true)
– Old Bawa
– Magic Tea
– Chicken Sanju Baba (apparently Sanjay Dutt’s recipe)
– Carnivore’s Bhel (Bombay Bhel with chicken, bacon and ham in a tangy dressing)…SIGH !!!
