This week on The Maven Lifestyle, let me introduce you to awesomely weird city of Cappadocia, Turkey!
The Cappadocian region of Turkey is known for its ‘Mars-like’ feels! The unusual rock formation, the valley, canyon, hills is a result of the eroding rains and winds (FYI)
Reasons Cappadocia will BLOW YOUR MIND AWAY
A Different Planet Feels
If you’ve been wanting to visit another planet to know what it feels like to experience life outside of planet Earth, then don’t sweat, Cappadocia’s uniquely quirky landscape is going to give you similar feels! And as the Drifter Planet (drifterplanet.com) quite interesting said,
“Perhaps Mother Nature was on LSD when she created Cappadocia.”
Live in a Cave
Cappadocia is full of cave hotels and they’re built in a way that you don’t need fan or air conditioning inside your
Though they do have exhaust fans installed all throughout your cave which are quite smartly concealed!
Honestly guys, living in a Cave hotel was an amazing experience for us!

Hot Air Ballooning
Cappadocia is the most famous for its hot air ballooning but quite unfortunately for us due to poor weather conditions, our (balloon) flight got cancelled less than 24 hours prior to our most-awaited experience! ’Twas quite a bummer for us as we had planned to visit Cappadocia JUST to experience a hot air balloon ride!
Butttttt… when life gives you lemons, make lemonade!
So we decided to suck it up & take a city tour instead that turned out to be a lot of fun!
PS…If you’re planning to fly to Cappadocia JUST for this ride then be prepared for such a mishap! Ideally you could keep two days in hand for Cappadocia; one day for an early morning hot air ballooning flight and the other day for a 9-5 city tour which will surprise you in many ways!
Derinkuyu Underground City
It’s Cappadocia’s largest underground area that was used for hiding by the locals back in the day during times of war! It happens to be 7 floors and 85m deep! It actually contains all the usual rooms found in an underground city (stables, cellars, storage rooms, refectories, churches, wineries, etc.)
Now, going inside and walking around the Underground city isn’t a cake walk guys! It’s a test of your fitness levels. Folks who have back problems, heart issues and BP imbalances aren’t advices to enter this space! Oh and peeps who feel claustrophobic should most certainly steer clear of this place!
Nevertheless, this was the highlight of our trip; we laughed, we snooped around, we had each others asses up our noses, panted all throughout and alas this iconic photograph:
Cappadocia: A treat for Photographers, Bloggers & Models
Against such a quirky backdrop, photographers, bloggers and models get some of the coolest photographs! Sunrise & Sunset moments are to die for in Cappadocia! Also, the city has some spots that offer ICONIC panoramic views!
Finally some Hamam Time
Cappadocia being one of those small, quiet and cutsyyy cities gave me time to experience Hamam (Turkish Bath)! I have to tell you guys that it’s really silly to return from Turkey without going to a Hamam, it was the most spoilt I’ve ever been- I must say, I got really lucky with my choice of place…speaking of which, go for the most elite & graceful place ONLY!
The Art of Bargaining
The Art of Bargaining must be applied everywhere in Turkey. Some sellers go down by 85% too! Yes! It’s insane. Also, avoid buying gemstones from Cappadocia as these must be bought from a very trusted place.
Göreme Onyx is a spot where most guided tours make a pit stop. Please ensure you get anything but gemstones from this place as most of the TripAdvisor reviews are calling the gemstones of poor quality or fake.
I, however got myself a Cleopatra silver cuff made from silver wire that can go upto 7km! Can’t really go wrong with that, can you?
