This blog post is dedicated to all the souls out there who are vulnerable and super sensitive around birthdays.
Why are people vulnerable around birthdays?
The one and only one word answer to this question is – EXPECTATIONS! We as humans are constantly looking and craving for love, connection and to a (hopefully healthy extent) validation. The second we don’t get any of this, we feel lost and … anxiety kicks in.
Recently I came across a research video in which a 1 year old baby is exposed to a multitude of reactions by his mother in a span of 2 minutes. This video clearly depicts how the moment that baby feels disconnected from his mother, he starts yelling, crying and gets overly anxious. This instantly changes once the baby experiences love, attention and connection back!
Now, this is a behaviour that sticks with the human race until a person practices:
-detachment from relationships
-drawing healthy boundaries
-loving self unconditionally
-living life with absolute compassion.
The issue is that we feel that our Birthday should be celebrated and hyped only by those around us … why? Because this makes us feel loved and cared for. (Most)people basically don’t like taking any responsibility for their birthday… they like putting the onus on those around them; now this in turn raises expectations which when not met, results in sadness & feeling of loneliness.
What’s the hype around Birthdays?
Us being social animals from the beginning of time have thrived off on hanging out in groups of like-minded souls. It not just makes us feel loved and connected but also gives us a feeling of safety and security. It makes us feel supported in ways more than one. This is why we all secretly hope and desire to celebrate birthdays in the form of parties and gatherings.
The New Way…
Take this blog post as a heart warming reminder to celebrate you, in a much bigger way… at least once a year. This doesn’t mean you must throw a party or take people out… it simply means that you GO ALL OUT to…cherish YOU a whole lot more than usual.
My little sister’s 25th Birthday was a yet another reminder to me to promote cherishing and celebrating birthdays …
FYI it was her idea & desire to have a Yacht Party for her BIG 25th!!!
Here are the pictures from the coolest Yacht Party of 2018!

“Celebrating birthdays is not only about celebrating your birth but it’s also about welcoming another year filled with opportunities to work towards yourself- your goals, your happiness and your life’s ultimate purpose. Birthdays should be celebrated in the most kick-ass way so as to remind yourself that life is going to kick your ass until you start learning to kick life’s ass!!”
